Field Notes
It was a cloudy friday around 11:30am. We went to the stream behind the school and started looking around. After awhile a boy caught us a bug with a kick net. It was a black beetle. After it was put in the tube it whirled around like tornado.
Supporting Evidence
Photo of my evidence.
The claw of the beetle is extended by the needle, like how Whirligig Beetles have two claws. We found this as we watched it attempt to climb the side of the tube. We ruled out Water Penny beetle, because they don’t have claws.
Photo of my evidence.
The beetle has a black exoskeleton just like the Whirligig Beetle. The beetle cannot be a Water Penny Beetle because the Water Penny Beetle has a round exoskeleton without a small point.
Photo of my evidence.
We found that it eyes on its bottom half of the body, ( horizontally), near the head just like the Whirligig Beetle has. This is not a Water Penny, because a Water Penny do not have a second pair of eyes.

Comments

Hi all,

Two things:

1. I love your third picture and how you labeled the beetle with the arrow and text. Nice job annotating the image! Great.

2. Nice username! Fluffy puppies :)

Best,
Kansas
